The Registrar of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana, Mr. Felix Nyante has paid a working visit to some facilities in the Volta region. The visit formed part of the Registrar's support supervisory visit to the Region. The Registrar and his team met with the Volta Regional Director of Health Services, Dr. Joseph Teye Nuertey and a cross section of the management to discuss how nursing and midwifery practices could be improved in the region. The facilities visited were, Keta District Hospital, Ketu-South District Hospital in Aflao, Akatsi District Hospital, Sogakpoe District Hospital and the Adidome District Hospital. The others are Municipal Hospital, Ho, Volta Regional Hospital, Catholic Hospital, Battor and the Municipal Hospital in Hohoe.
Addressing separate durbars of nursing and midwifery practitioners at the various facilities, the Registrar urged them to practice with high professionalism and also serve as role models to student nurses and clients to uplift the image of the profession. The Registrar also encouraged management of the hospitals to adhere to the new Infection Prevention Control Policy (IPC) which advocates for the wearing of scrub to help curb the spread of nosocomial infections.
Mr. Felix Nyante, on behalf of the Council, donated 20 branded N&MC bedsheets and pillow cases each to all the facilities visited to support service delivery. Management of the hospitals were grateful to the Council for the support and promised to use the bedsheets to improve service delivery in their facilities. The Registrar was in the company of the Deputy Registrar, Mrs. Philomena Woolley, the Chief Nursing Officer of the Volta Region, Ms. Catherine Obosu and some senior staff of the Council.
